Even news anchors have their limits on correcting Donald Trump. (Watch the video below.)
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday appeared fed up with the former president’s wild accusation that President Joe Biden has been hopped up on drugs like cocaine.
During a campaign stop in Racine, Wisconsin, the former president predicted Biden will do the same for their debate next week and directly accused the incumbent of being the one who left a baggie of cocaine at the White House last summer. (The Secret Service concluded it could not finger the culprit.)
“He’s gonna be so pumped up, he’s gonna be pumped up,” Trump told the crowd. “You know all that stuff that was missing about a month ago from the White House? What happened? … Somebody didn’t pick up hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cocaine. I wonder who that could’ve been. I don’t know. Actually, I think it was Joe.”
Collins’ annoyance that she had to bat down Trump’s persistent and baseless claim came through.
“I can’t even believe I have to fact-check that one, I guess if that’s what you’re calling it,” Collins said. “But it was not President Biden.”
Trump, who previously said Biden was “higher than a kite” during his State of the Union address in March, has cynically renewed calls for a debate drug test as the showdown nears. Meanwhile, Republican allies have also harped on Biden’s supposed deficit in mental fitness by using deceptive videos.
The criminally convicted GOP candidate has been accused of his own cognitive shortcomings.
